FREEZ-O-REE

Reid and Mike went camping this weekend. This is called the freezoree for the boy scouts. This is the first year they've had it at the Air Force Academy since 9/11. They were lucky it wasn't negative temperatures but it still wasn't summer camping.
The boys in the troop have been working for a couple of months on their tank. They had to change it to a hummer since it there are no tanks in the AF.

The sled weighed about 150 lbs not including their equipment they had on it. Since it wasn't "freezing" there wasn't enough snow to make it easy to pull.

The boys worked together to pull it throughout the day and get to the different stations that they needed to be at.

They worked and pulled most of the day. Finally they figured out that as they got to each station they weren't checking the hummer and it wasn't being used. They decided to ditch the hummer and kept participating. They all had fun and came home hungry and smelly. But they did a great job and had wonderful team work!

Creative Laura Lou

We have a rule in our house. You do not get to go to a friends unless we have run credit and criminal records on the family. Actually not that bad but like to meet the family and know as much as we can before the kids go to a friends house. So when Laura asked in advance like they're suppose to and wanted to ride the bus home.....ugh.....I was a little nervous. She had a project due and it would take a couple of days. They had to bake a cake, decorate it and write about how they came up with the idea. The girls did a wonderful job. This is so cute and is actually in the fridge now. (well see if it makes it through the night) Laura has been so creative this week and has reminded me at least four times that we have a cake in the fridge.
Dad and Reid are at the scouts freezoree. Krystal, Laura and I are left with the two sweet monsters! So after prayer tonight she looked straight at David and said, please do not touch my cake tonight. I think she wants dad to be able to see it before it falls into the hands of the siblings. We already have had some picking at it before I got home. Good news is Haley told the truth and didn't get in trouble. We will take baby steps anyway we can. Brothers and sisters aren't always fun to have but give parents great stories. Plus at least they're appreciating her talent!

Divide & Conquer

Tonight David and Krystal had a band concert. We got through the night without an emergency room visit. (which is good because just got done paying off the last one) Tuesday nights can be a little hectic with activities for the kids. Mike and Reid had scouts, Laura and Haley had activity days. So I got to go to the concert. They performed first out of the different bands they have at RHS. It was great watching them both perform together again. David hasn't played an instrument for the school since middle school where he was in the district honor band and first chair. So when he joined the band in January we were more then happy. They did great and they looked great too! Still can't believe they are both in high school. Well, Mike took the three younger kids to church. The boys worked on sled for the freez 0 ree this weekend. They get to go race this sled at the AFA. Haley put together this family home evening packet about pioneers and Laura made these blocks. They are like dice and have different pictures of the family on them. Very creative and cute.
So although getting everyone to all the different commitments it was a successful night and another reason why we love them!

FHE Plaque

On a previous blog I posted a FHE lesson and talked about the arguing that goes on of who's turn it is to do what. Well a blogging buddy saw this and said she had something she would like to make for us. I was excited but with all the craziness lately just about forgot.
Sunday in church we walked into Sacrament and her daughter handed me something that was wrapped in tissue paper. I was a little shocked but opened it up and my mouth dropped. It was this beautiful plaque. I was so excited and showed the whole family (yes during sacrament). Everyone from Mike down to Haley played with the stars. The stars are all magnetized so they can be moved and switched around.
Julie is so talented and think she needs to teach a class on how to make these. I sent this picture to all my sisters and they want to know how to make them.
So THANK YOU Julie! You are amazing and we absolutely LOVE the plaque and will put it to good use.

ROAD TRIP July 2009

Halloween 2009

Found an old picture of the kids in 2003. Thought it would be a fun way to see how much they've grown. Pretty soon I'll be lucky if they'll take a picture for me! 3 out of 5 pumpkins made it to the porch! David carved way too much and it sort of fell apart. (why it is on his head) Haley tripped on the front porch and the pumpkin flew to its end. While comforting Haley something happened to Reid's pumpkin and it ended up in 2 peices. We're just happy we got to carve pumpkins this year!
